Development Application (DA)

A Development Application (DA) is your official request to the local council for permission to undertake a new development. Whether you’re looking to build a pool, remove a tree, construct a garage, or expand your home with extra rooms, a DA is essential. For more complex projects, like dual occupancy, multi-dwelling developments, subdivisions, or changing the use of a commercial property, a DA is a must-have. Let us help you navigate the process with ease!

The purpose of a Development Application (DA) is to safeguard the interests of all stakeholders—those who might be affected by the proposed development. Generally, larger projects tend to have a broader impact on people and the surrounding environment, but this isn’t universally applicable. Each project, regardless of its size, is distinct and can have different effects on its surroundings. Key areas that a DA evaluates include:

  • Natural environment

  • Carports and Garages

  • Heritage buildings and conservation areas

  • Social impacts on neighbours and the community

  • Noise levels

  • Waste management

  • Privacy concerns

  • Access to natural sunlight

  • Traffic effects
